Description
This is a performance edition of a Canzonetta for three voices by Claudio Monteverdi, first published in Venice, 1584. I have added a Harpsichord or Lute (Guitar) part to the original music. It can be sung also a cappella. These pieces were written by a young Monteverdi as he studied counterpoint, madrigal and motet writing with his teacher, Marc' Antonio Ingegneri. The Canzonetta is short, with only one verse, but very sweet. The text is: "Tu ridi sempre mai" (You are always laughing) "Per darmi pene e guai" (to hurt and pain me). "Fingi volermi bene" (You pretend to love me) "crudel per darmi pene." (cruel one, just to hurt me). The piece can be performed by either three soloists or mixed Vocal Ensemble.
