Description
This famous a cappella Hebrew Motet, first published in 1622, is in Baroque style and was originally set for ATTB voices (given that women don't usually sing in Synagogues). The music is lovely and I thought it could be useful in contemporary times in numerous occasions, for a female ensemble. There are many performances recorded on Youtube in the original voice setting to listen to. The piece may be sung by a chorus, an ensemble or by four soloists.The text is from Psalm 80.

O God, restore us;
And cause Thy face to shine,
and we shall be saved.
O God of hosts, restore us;
And cause Thy face to shine,
and we shall be saved.
O Lord God of hosts, restore us;
Cause Thy face to shine,
and we shall be saved.

Elohim, hashivenu;
v'haer panecha, v'nivvashe`a.
Elohim tsevaot, hashivenu;
v'haer panecha, v'nivvashe`a.
Adonai elohim tsevaot, hashivenu;
haer panecha v'nivvashe`a.
