Description
This is a performance edition of a short motet from the series "Sacrae Cantiunculae" written by Claudio Monteverdi as a teenager when he was studying counterpoint with Marc'Antonio Ingegneri. It probably was originally performed by SAT voices and was first published in 1582. This edition contains suggestions for text pronunciation corrections and embellishments. The motet may be performed by a choral ensemble or by three soloists, even three instrumentalists.
O Crux Benedicta
que sola fuisti digna
portare regem coelorum
et Dominum angelorum.
Alleluia.
O Blessed Cross
Which alone was worthy
To carry the King of Heaven
And the God of the angels.
Alleluia.
